Yad Mordechai

About our partner

The Yad Mordechai apiary was established in 1936 along with the founding of Kibbutz Yad Mordechai. The beehive was established by the core founding team of the Kibbutz.

The Kibbutz Yad Mordechai pioneers had to wait for a year to get the land they wanted in Mitzpe Yam (ocean look-out). At the time regiments of British and Australian soldiers were in that area, and that is how the pioneers learned the tradition of how to make honey. So with their receiving the land, honey became Kibbutz Yad Mordechai’s main focus.

The Yad Mordechai apiary started out with a few beehives and today has over 6,000. The Yad Mordechai apiary is currently the leading apiary in Israel specializing in the marketing of a range of pure honey products.

Additional information about the Kibbutz and apiary can be found on the Kibbutz site www.yadmor.org.il and the apiary site www.yad-mordechai.co.il.

About the partnership

In 2002, Strauss acquired the Yad Mordechai honey operation, mainly with regard to the rights to the Yad Mordechai brand. Strauss and the concern owned by Kibbutz Yad Mordechai established Yad Mordechai Elite. Since its establishment Yad Mordechai Elite has expanded its activity to include olive oil and jams.
