History
Strauss entered the Adriatic coffee market through its acquisition of the Doncafé brand in 2003. Up until that time Doncafé was owned by the family company Golex Product and was a local success in the Serbian market. From 2003 to 2005, much effort was invested in integrating Strauss’ advanced technology into the coffee production process and building the brand. In 2005, the roasting and grounding processes became fully automatic to answer the growing demand of the market.
In 2004 we began to operate out of the home coffee services under the Doncafé Moment brand and also started to enter the Bosnia Herzegovina market at the same time, with the main activity being focused on Sarajevo. 2005 was the year that we signed a strategic agreement with a marketing and distribution firm in Slovenia that allowed us to enter the Slovenian market and Montenegro as well, where we captured a 10% share of the market in our first year of operation.
By 2007, the new Doncafé factory in Šimanovci had been completed. Considered state-of-the-art for Eastern Europe the factory contains 33,000 square meters of production halls, offices, storage areas and special areas for educational and social activities. There is a visitor’s center and coffee museum in the factory where one can learn about the growing and processing processes of this unique beverage.
Business Overview
Today Strauss Adriatic markets instant, roasted and ground coffee in South-Eastern Europe under the Doncafé brand, and operates the Doncafé Moment brand for out of the home coffee services. In Serbia we are the leading coffee brand with a 35% market share of the home coffee consumption market, and possessing accelerated growth statistics. The ongoing success of Doncafé in the coffee market combined with our award-winning marketing moves transformed us by 2006 to the leading local coffee brand in the country.
In May of 2008, we signed an agreement with Doncafé Italy for acquiring the Doncafé and Prince brands in Albania, Kosovo and Macedonia. The new agreement allows us to leverage the Doncafé success to enter developing markets in South-Eastern Europe.
